Jahan Claes grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He received his BS in physics and mathematics from the University of Chicago, and did his PhD in physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he researched disorder in topological insulators. While in graduate school, Jahan interned in the quantum computing group at NASA Ames, where he developed new benchmarking methods for quantum processors, and at the startup QC Ware, where he studied the performance of the quantum approximate optimization algorithm. At Yale, Jahan is working with Shruti Puri to develop error correction and error characterization schemes for biased noise qubits. Jahan is also the 2021 YQI postdoctoral fellow.
